An extraordinary cultural wealth

The city of SFAX, formerly SYPHAX (fortified place) among the Berbers and TAPARURA among the Romans, has grown from a rich historical heritage. Indeed, it was in the ninth century that the Sfaxian city was built. Its cultural configuration today is due to the construction of ramparts by the aghlabids especially, to strengthen the city's face against the arriving assailants.
